FAQs

Email the Pack.

When and Where do you meet?

Typically, we meet 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesdays of each month at our Chartered Organization, the VFW of LaSalle. Meetings start at 6pm and we usually have everything cleaned up and out the door before 8pm.
A few Meetings and activities during the year will have to be scheduled on weekend days.

What ages are available for Cub Scouts?

Scouting has opportunities for all youth starting at Kindergarten age.
Kindergarten thru 5th grades are for Cub Scouts.
6th graders to age 18 join Troops.
Youth 14 thru 21 join Venturers, Explorers, and Ships.

Do we have to live in LaSalle?

Not at all. As long as you can routinely get to the Meetings, we welcome you!
Scouts have come from Leland, Ottawa, Streator, Tonica, DePue, Princeton, and other area towns.

What is the cost to join the Pack?

There is a one time joiner fee for new Scouts.
Annual dues include National Membership, Council Fees, and Pack Program fees.
Scouts have the ability to earn their dues with fundraisers.
Email us for more information and / or current rates.

What supplies, uniforms, or other items are required? Where can I get them?

Your Scout’s rank determines the Uniform and Handbook required.
Scout Shop is the official store of Scouting America. Council also has a couple of storefronts in Peoria and Bloomington. Aside from the great resources the members at the stores are, they will also attach patches (in the correct locations) for a small fee.
Occasionally, you can find uniforms and handbooks at local thrift shops or garage sales.
Check with your Den Leader to ensure you have the right uniform/handbook for your Scout.

Do parents attend Den Meetings?

Yes. We are a Family Pack and have discovered everyone gets more out of Scouts when the Family joins in.

I have other children and can’t find a babysitter for Meetings.

We are a Family Pack. If your Scout has sibling(s), they are welcome to attend. They can’t earn achievements, but we do include them in as many activities as we can.

What is Youth Protection Training and why should I take it?

The Youth Protection Training is a set of standards and guidelines developed by Scouting America to eliminate opportunities for abuse of youth members. All adults are required to undergo a criminal background check and complete Youth Protection Training before being allowed to register as a Scouting America leader. Volunteers must recertify every 2 years.
As leaders, we highly encourage parents take YPT as well.

How can I become a volunteer?

All help is welcome. Positions available include small tasks (helping plan a Den activity) to “full-time” Leadership.
Speak to any of the Leaders or come to the Committee Meetings and express your interest.

Do you meet in the summer?

Each Den has a different schedule while the youth are out of school. The Pack stays active with field trips, camping, fishing, and hiking at local parks and trails.

My child has special needs. Can we still join?

Scouting is for ALL youth. If your child has special needs, email us. We will work with you on accommodations / needs.
